<Saif> The three check out the beetle. they find that it does look quite a bit like a fire beetle, but there are some subtle differences that Ari points out.

<Saif> Matar - the wings are two pieces and cover most of the body. They are the hardest armor. The rest of the beetle is hard as well, although the armor isn't nearly as thick.

* Amber looks for a nearby ledge again..or a clear path the way they came...

<Saif> Matar - so in the end you determine that these things don't really have a weak spot that could be easily exploitable (like a Remorazzah or however it is spelled). You could try called shots against some of the joint areas, but the difficulty of hitting such a small area would probably outweigh any benefit of the thinner armor.

<Saif> Xaveus shakes his head and stands up. "It's all quiet now. The grinding, then a big thump, and now nothing."

<Saif> The soft beetle looks rather strange. It is a yellowish color instead of the blue-black of the others.

* Amber stops guarding the back and examines the regular beetle wing covers. Are they irradescent, hard enough for useful object like a cap or someting?
<Saif> Kat just sees a bunch of guts, not really sure what is what. She does notice that they don't appear to have a heart or lungs
<Kat> "Iron rations suck. So, I don't eat them."
<Sane> *any new beetles appear during all this? sounds getting closer? louder?
<Saif> Amber - they are a matte color, black and blue, and yes, quite hard, but brittle as well.
<Kat> "Thick hide. I wonder if it would make good armor or not."
<Saif> No, no new beetles appear, the grinding sound continues, although fainter now
<Xaveus> Xaveus will go over and crunch a few corpses with "LuLu" looking for perhaps weaknesses in their shell. What crunches the loudest, that sort of thing.
* Kat will try to determine if the skin would be good for armor or not.
* Amber puts a couple away for later experimentation.

<Saif> Kat - probably not, you figure an inch of this stuff would be worth about the same as a layer of leather armor - if you could keep it from drying out.

<Armatage> "I go first and make sure it is actually clear before allowing the others to come up."
