Chat
Summary for 13 October, 2000
As
we began the chat session it looked like things were finally turning for the
Seekers. As events played out that
proved to be the case.
As
per the norm for this battle I’ll review events by character rather than by round. But first, an overview.
The
key events took place in the first round, when Sane fireballed and killed
Farayenal just after she called for a retreat.
Most of the other party took her advice and left. Haragswarld stayed long enough to try and
have his skeletons take Diana, but Thengal thwarted his efforts.
Matar’s
autonomic system probably saved his life when it shut down at the beginning of
the battle and he fell to the ground unconscious. Had he stayed up both Thump and Groznyj would have probably hit
him and killed him.
Katrina
had a very productive session. After
Farayenal went down she adjusted her target and managed to take both Thump and
Dac out. She then fired on Haragswarld
several times as he fled and finally at Umlith as he fought Thengal.
Sane,
of course, scored the big points when he used his Wand of Fireballs to bring
down Farayenal. While the actual blast
only knocked her unconscious, the fall from 30’ in the air proved to be
extremely deadly. Then kenku then ran
over and stabilized Matar. He then
approached Dac, meaning to kill him, but by the time he made it over there the
battle was over and his attention was pulled elsewhere.
K’harn
fought a skeleton and Umlith, but this time only managed to score minor
damage. She did, however, claim the
honor of the last kill as she took out the final skeleton.
Amber
managed to stabilize Dac after Katrina sent him deep into negative
territory. Once he was stable she
healed herself and then went to go help heal the others. She managed to turn most of the skeletons
which were attacking Thengal.
Thengal
started the session by playing a game of dwarven bowling, slamming into the
skeletons trying to carry Diana away.
He knocked over three of them and the other four dropped the mage. He was then forced to fight Umlith from a
prone position. He took several wounds,
but finally managed to slide Finslayer deep into the drow warrior.
As
for the other party:
When
Matar went down Thump looked around and saw Farayenal fall to the ground. Although Haragswarld ordered him to help
with the retreat Thump ran to Farayenal.
There Kat put several arrows in him, hitting him once per round to make
sure he stayed down. The damage finally
added up and the tough trollkin expired.
When
Farayenal landed she was only about five feet away from Prentyss. Seeing the party leader’s broken corpse was
enough for the thief. She turned
invisible and beat feet.
Dac
was conscious at the beginning of the battle.
He was about to drink one of Amber’s potions of healing when Katrina put
an arrow into his chest. Amber managed
to stabilize him, but he has yet to regain consciousness.
Farayenal’s
fate has already been made clear.
Groznyj
obeyed orders, pulling back and then quickly retreating.
Crystenna
was heading north almost before Farayenal was finished ordering the retreat.
Haragswarld
didn’t want to leave with nothing, so before leaving he had his skeletons pick
up Diana. When Thengal broke that up he
ordered his skeletons to kill the dwarf.
He then grabbed the flesh golem and dragged him away.
Umlith
regained consciousness right after the retreat was ordered. He was very confused by the situation and
more than a little crazy at not knowing where Venom was. He ran forward and attacked Thengal, but was
eventually brought down. Just before he
died tentacles grew out of his torso and lifted him off the ground, but they
vanished after he was killed.
Now
for the post-game recap.
Once
everything was secured the party went about mopping up. Sane bound Dac tightly while Katrina made
sure both Thump and Farayenal were dead.
Amber healed Matar and Diana, then Matar used his herbs on Castinar
enough to wake him up. Katrina used her
ring to neutralize the poison holding Nikki.
Shadow was found and brought over next to everybody else.
There
was an interesting scene when Sane tried several times to dispel the charm on
Amber. When he failed he resorted to
physical means, trying to tie the halfling up.
She managed to slip away from him so he cast an illusion of a rope to
bind her. She ran over to Thengal for
protection. The dwarf tried to talk
Sane out of his course of action as Amber continued running around trying to
get away from the rope. When Kat chimed
in as well Sane dropped his spell, leaving Amber free.
All
during this time K’harn was pacing back and forth, calling out for the party to
go find Ari.
Those
still up and around then gathered all of the goods off of their fallen
opponents and Sane detected for magic on them.
The following items are magical:
Farayenal:
Chain mail
Short Sword
Short Bow
Scroll
Spell Book
Thump:
Ring
Dac:
Drow chain mail
Ring
Box
Hat
Spellbook
Umlith:
short sword (green)
short sword
drow chain mail
boots
“leather” jerkin
Note
that Dac’s strange weapons and numerous metallic cylinders around his belt did
not detect as magic, although Sane quickly confiscated them.
Once
everybody was up and moving again (except for Shadow, who is still paralyzed,
and Dac, who is still unconscious) the party decided to pull back and rest
up. Castinar remembered a small side
cave about 300 yards back, so the party went there. They took the bodies of Thump, Farayenal, and Umlith with them. About the time the house went up Shadow was
finally able to move again.
That
is the current situation. It is about
15 minutes after the battle. Everybody
is now conscious, although Matar, Diana, and Castinar are all walking wounded. The only healing spell I know of in the
party is a single Repair Injury spell that Amber has. Amber is still convinced that the battle was all a terrible
mistake, and she is watching over Dac.
So,
what now? The battle grid is up to
date, so you should be able to ascertain your character’s condition and spell
load there.
