Chat Summary for 27 Oct, 2000

First, a review of last week.

We only had about half the normal amount of people at the chat session on the 20th.  Between that and the fact that the DM had a baby on his lap who was very interested in the keyboard we only played for about an hour. The only thing of interest that happened was that Nikki got into the spellbooks.  Farayenal’s exploded, injuring Nikki and destroying about half of the spells in the spellbook.  Kat also gathered the loot off the bodies.  The chat log for the 20th is in the same file on the web page as the log from this week.

During the week in e-mail the group decided not to go pursue the slavers until everybody was ready to go.  Also Sane was finally able to remove the Charm spell off of Amber.

Now to the chat session.

Again we only had about half the people there, but since most of those not there were walking wounded we decided to play anyway.  Three main things happened: the questioning of Dac and the dead people, IDing magic items, and tracking down the Others.  This process took three full days, so in the background those badly wounded recovered, the party was healed up, and spells were rememorized. There was also a lot of OOC conversation about the game’s conversion to 3e at the beginning of the chat session.  I’ve left that in the log in case some of the players who missed the session want to read it.

Dac was already stripped down, bound, and gagged.  Just to be safe, before Amber revived him Sane cast Blindness on him.  They then woke the half-elf back up. Sane began questioning the half-elf, wanting him only to nod or shake his head in reply.  Dac didn’t cooperate and kept gesturing to his gag.  Finally Kat put her claws up against Dac’s throat and the gag was removed.

The party tried again to question him.  Sane told him that if he answered all of the party’s questions they might let him go.  Dac didn’t buy the kenku’s deal, wanting assurances before he answered any questions that the party would let him go.  While the negotiations about this were going on Dac displayed a ‘come-what-may’ attitude about his past and fate that didn’t sit well with the party.  They got frustrated with him and ended up killing him.

The party then rested some more, keeping Dac’s body handy for a Speak with Dead spell.  Once Diana had recovered and was able to cast spells she cast Speak with Dead on Dac.  The shade of Dac began to appear, but was replaced with a demonic figure, who wanted to know who was trying to play with his new toy.  After a few exchanges with the party the demon grew impatient and tried to force his way into this plane.  Diana quickly ended her spell, driving the demon off.

Diana then spent a day drawing a magic circle with the intent to summon Dac again.  Instead the party ended up deciding to try to summon the spirit of the dead Drow.  They did so, although the only real information they got out of it was that somebody named Venom had Ariessus.

During the three days that the party rested up and Diana drew her circle, Nikki cast Identify on the magic items gathered off the fallen Slavers.  Here’s a final list of all the stuff found on the slavers.  It shows who the magic item was taken off of and if the item was fully identified (a “no-more-information” reading).

Magic Items:

Silent Elven Chain +2 (Fara, full)

Drow Chain Mail +2 (Dac, full)

Hat of Disguise (Dac, full)

Jerkin of Tentacles (Umlith, full)

Burned Spellbook (Fara, see below)

Spellbook (Dac, see below)

The spellbooks contained the following spells:

Farayenal’s:

1st: burning hands, detect magic, sleep

2nd: melf’s acid arrow, strength

3rd: fly, protection from normal missiles, wraithform

Dac’s:

1st level: charm person, color spray, detect magic, enlarge, expeditious retreat, grease, jump, spider climb.

2nd: cat’s grace, fool’s speech, glitterdust, misdirection, deep pockets, rope trick, scare

3rd: blink, dispel magic, haste, monster summoning I, wraithform

On the mundane valuables front the party gathered 604 gold pieces, 257 platinum pieces, a set of platinum  pins and fetishes from Umlith worth about 1000 gp (possibly more to a drow sage), a neckchain worth about 1,000 gp, and four platinum trade bars worth 100 pp each.  In gps that works out to be almost 6,000 gp worth of treasure.  They also took two weapons off of Dac which Kat believes work like the firearms that are beginning to pop up around the Realms.

Finally the party found some rather strange clothing in the bottom of Dac’s flatbox.  All of it was rather worn and old, but still usable.  There was a long, tan colored leather duster, a hat which reminded Kat of Jonathon’s strange hat that he calls his “Aussie” hat, a pair of boots, a thick leather belt with small loops on it, and a silver amulet or holy symbol with a seven-pointed star inside a circle with engravings on the circle and on the star.  Nikki took the hat and the star.  The other stuff went back into the box.  They also found about 50 more of the cartridges that Kat believes go with Dac’s firearms, although she didn’t figure out how to put the cartridges into the firearm.

With the identifications and questioning complete, and with everybody healed up, the party set out to try and track the slavers down.  Castinar and Shadow moved out ahead, tracking.  They found signs indicating that the five surviving slavers all met up about a half mile from the site of the battle and set up an ambush site while the cleric rested, probably to restore spells.  ** There is one other thing I forgot during the chat sessions.  The were signs that two of those returned to the site of the battle.  When the left the golem followed them on his own feet. ** The slavers then traveled about another half mile down the tunnel until the trail ended in a blank wall.  Thengal believed that the wall was once an opening, but that the stone had been shaped to seal the entrance.  Sane used several spells and discovered that the wall was about 12’ thick, and beyond it was a room with a shaft dropping out of it.  K’harn used a Stone Tell spell to discover that the slavers had passed by this point, and that one of them who “loved the stone” convinced the stone to seal the tunnel behind them.  She also discovers that this same process (the sealing of tunnels behind them) has gone on in several more locations beyond this one.

That’s where we ended.  The Seekers are standing in front of the stone wall, trying to figure out what they are going to do.  From K’harn’s conversation it is apparent that the other group is moving rather quickly through the labyrinth-like tunnels and shafts beyond this point, laying down obstacles as they went.  They also have a two-day head start on the Seekers.

So, remembering NOT to quote this entire message in your reply, what do you do?
