We had a little over half the players at the chat session on Friday. It was an abbreviated session since I got there late.
The first half was spent casting preparatory spells. We had several fundamental 3e questions come up which we discussed. We also finalized the last few details on a few of the PCs.
Then we started to play. As it turned out the DM got long-winded and took up the rest of the chat session setting up the initial battle. They party is escorted from the Amirsaqut warehouse by a drow who introduces himself as Falan, a member of the City Watch. He tells the Seekers that the plan is for them to be smuggled into the Zimrath compound disguised as members of the Watch conducting a surprise inspection. He hands out uniforms, and with the help of Sane disguises most of the party as drow.
The party then leaves the warehouse for the first time and ascends up the side of the hill towards the Zimrath compound. At the gate Falan demands to be let in. At first the guards resist, then someone from inside directs them to open the gates. The party moves inside and Falan turns them over to an old drow male with glowing red robes. The old man leads them to a hidden room where they change into the livery of House Zimrath. Disguised as servants they are lead by the old man down into the dungeon area where Nikki uses a Fireball to take care of the guards.
The party calls out for Narlan Silversword. Several prisoners answer. After a visual inspection and a “quiz” question by Castinar the true Narlan is singled out. He is disoriented and full of questions, but once the party gets through to him that this is a rescue mission and they have to leave he cooperates fully. On the way out he grabs a weapon.
Once again the old man leads the way up towards the gates above. This time they are not so fortunate, as a young drow priestess stops them and questions the old man. When she grows suspicious the old man attacks her with a wand of lightning. The first blast doesn’t kill her. She spits out something in Abyssal and then begins to flee. The old man tells the party to make for the gates and that he’ll take care of the priestess.
Unfortunately for the party, the priestess’ words were not a simple curse. They activate two guardians hidden in the pillars at the far end of the room. Huge humanoid stone figures thee times the height of a man break free from the marble columns and begin to slowly move towards the party.
That’s where we called it a night. Those present rolled initiative. For those that were not there I’ve rolled initiative. The initiative sheet will always be on the same document as the battle map (combat.gif). That map is now up as well.
Since we didn’t actually start combat, those of you who don’t have character sheets completed yet have a short grace period. I don’t expect people to be watching for turns over this weekend, but I would like to start up next Tuesday. Those without character sheets will be allowed to start playing (with a real character, not just something that can move and talk) once their sheets are complete.
I’ll send something out on Tuesday about how we are going to try and run the e-mail turns. 3e is not PBEM-friendly, so I’m trying to come up with a good way to run e-mail combats without waiting forever for people to post. More on that on Tuesday. For now, enjoy Christmas - unless you’re one of those without a character sheet done. In that case you should be riddled with guilt and highly motivated to get your submission in ASAP.
Enjoy the holidays!
