Chat Summary for 5 January, 2001
A new millennium, and a new set of combat rules. Overall the chat session went quite smoothly last night considering we were using a set of rules most of us haven’t played with before.
We started with the party being approached by two large figures which they assumed were golems. After watching them for a while, Castinar determined that they were actually earth elementals, not golems. After a couple rounds of combat the party was then attacked by four gargoyles as well. They were able to dispatch their foes quickly and, for the most part, quietly. Here’s a rundown by individual:
Amber: Amber cast Protection from Evil on Narlan as the battle started. She then tried to detect any additional threats to the party. She heard the gargoyles stirring on the balcony, but failed to recognize them for what they were. Once the gargoyles attacked she blasted one with a Searing Light spell. She then activated her Winged Boots and flew over to heal Narlan.
Ariessus: Bustin’ out!
Castinar: Before he recognized the opponents as earth elementals, Castinar cast Soften Earth and Stone in an attempt to form a barrier between the elementals and the party. He then yelled out, informing the party that the creatures were elementals. As he was readying his shield and Finslayer he was bashed very hard by one of the elementals. He pulled back and healed himself.
(OOC: something I remembered from the chat session that Castinar’s actions got me thinking of – talking (even yelling) is a free action. So in round two Castinar could have yelled out that the creatures were elementals while he readied his sword and Finslayer. I don’t know if Galen forgot to do this or not.)
Diana: Diana hasted Matar, then cast Prayer (which did make the difference on a couple of strikes). She was the first to feel the claws of the gargoyles. After protecting herself with a Mirror Image spell she cast a couple Magic Missile spells at the gargoyles, bringing one of them down.
Hunter: having an identity crisis
Katrina: Kat used her bow to good effect during the battle, doing respectable damage to one of the elementals before turning her attention on the gargoyles. She finished one of them off. She also tried to keep an ear out for anything trying to sneak up on the party.
K’harn: Bustin’ Ari out.
Matar: While Matar rolled crappy damage most the night, that didn’t prevent him from dispatching both elementals and two of the gargoyles – with help, of course. He used Diana’s Haste spell to good effect, charging all over the room while swinging his katana at things.
Nikki: still in somewhat of a daze
Sane: see Nikki
Shadow: Shadow had a fairly good fight as well, using her bow primarily on the elementals with a couple shots at the gargoyles. She was injured slightly by one of the gargoyles near the end of the battle.
Thengal: Thengal had a fairly good fight as well, doing most of the damage on one of the elementals, although Matar got the final strike in. Once he was clear Thengal scouted ahead to make sure the passage that the party would have to enter next was safe.
Narlan: The effects of the deprivations Narlan has been dealing with over the past few months were fairly apparent as the young man, normally known as a skilled fighter, could barely defend himself. He was hit multiple times by the gargoyles before getting under the cover of the balcony. Amber healed his wounds, but he is still weak from his ordeal.
We ended the chat session right after the last round of combat. I’ll be putting a prose post out later this weekend taking you from your current location down to the docks. There you will be reunited with Ariessus and might… just might… have another little encounter to deal with.
