Chat Summary for 12 January, 2001

The party was finally reunited with Ariessus.  While the drow looked tired and malnourished, she still had that same spark in her eye.  After getting reacquainted the group made its way up to the docks and began to walk towards the bioship and freedom.

That’s when Venom (the cleric who originally kidnapped Ariessus – and one of the daughters of House Aswadain) showed up with eight males in tow.  She did something that either changed her into a huge spider-like monster or summoned the monster.

There were a few party-wide events that happened during the battle.  Most of the party surrounded and battled with the spider.  As they did this the drow harassed them.  The worst thing that happened to the party was when one of the drow dropped a fireball into the middle of the group, burning everybody except for Matar and Shadow.  We got through three rounds of combat.  By individual…

Amber:  Amber tried to cast Silence on one of the robed drow, but the drow resisted her magic.  She then summoned a celestial eagle to attack the spider.  It is attacking, but has yet to score a hit.  When Castinar went down Amber activated her Winged Boots and flew over to him, using one of Laila’s Stone of Major Healing on him.

Ariessus: Ari was not about to die (or have any of her friends die) just as she was finally rescued.  She pulled the loaned blade out and attacked the spider creature.  She hit it once, but was hit by it twice.  She also took the full force of the fireball and was starting to get concerned.  That’s when the sword communicated with her telepathically, telling her to stand still.  She did so, and the sword Healed her.  Ari saw that Castinar had dropped, so she pulled back and cast Healing Circle, reviving Castinar and curing just about everybody who had been injured by the fireball.

Castinar:  Is anybody surprised that Castinar ended up negative?  <BG>  He did.  He went over to attack the spider creature.  He didn’t hit, and instead got hit by the beast.  Between the hits from the spider and the fireball he went negative.  Once Ari and Amber revived him the ranger got back up and right back into the battle.

Diana:  Diana threw an Ice Storm on top of the drow before most of them could react.  While the damage wasn’t intense, it still convinced the drow spellcasters to cast some defensive spells in addition to some offensive ones.  Diana was then badly damaged by the fireball, dropping to 0 hit points.  She quickly cast Cure Critical Wounds on herself.  Between that and Ari’s Healing Circle she recovered all of her hit points.  When one of the drow move forward to threaten her she stepped back and cast Sanctuary.

Katrina:  Kat opened combat the way she usually does – with her bow.  She kept the drow’s heads down until Diana was injured.  She moved to help Diana, attacking the drow threatening the cleric.  She killed him just as the session ended.

K’harn:  Ari’s companion first cast a Stoneskin on herself, then went forward to attack the spider.  After several attacks she finally realized her attacks weren’t damaging the creature.

Matar:  As soon as he could react Matar ran forward and attacked the spider.  He hit it several times over the course of the battle, doing most of the damage to it.  He also dispatched a drow which ran up behind him with a single blow.  He took a nasty hit by the spider and had to fight to keep his armor from being ripped off him.

Shadow:  At the beginning of the combat the spider ran up right next to Shadow.  The mute elf tried to roll away, but didn’t quite succeed and took a strike from the monster.  Before she could do much else one of the drow ran up and attacked her.  She fought it for a couple of rounds until Thengal helped her to dispatch it.

Thengal:  Like Matar, Thengal quickly engaged the spider.  To his dismay he found that his battle axe wouldn’t damage the creature.  Knowing he couldn’t do anything else there, he backed off and went to go help Shadow, killing off the drow attacking her.

The opponents:

The huge spider creature darted forward right into the middle of the party.  Over the course of the battle it managed to hit Shadow, Castinar, Ariessus, and Matar.  However, it is now very badly injured.

There were three groups of drow – four melee fighters, two missile fighters, and two spellcasters.

The melee fighters circled around the spider and moved in on the party from the sides.  Matar, Shadow, Diana, and Katrina were all engaged by them.  Three of them were killed in the final round of combat.

The missile fighters held back and have been harassing the party with arrows.

One of the spellcasters disappeared right after the combat began, although he was probably the one what dropped the fireball into the center of the party.  The other has been casting defensive spells and has now moved up right behind the spider creature.

That’s where we’re at right now.

We are not going to be chatting next Friday.  Jamie and I are going out for her birthday.  So let’s see if we can get a couple more rounds knocked out in e-mail.  If we do that we can get you guys out of Sakar and back to the regularly scheduled dungeon.

Do not reply to this e-mail with your intentions.  I’ll send out another post requesting them.
