*** Now talking in #Nightbelow

*** Topic is 'db unavailable this evening'

<Nikki> nah, a few others have old db code

<Saif> There we go

<Amber> hi

<Diana> saif, ignore my email :)

<Saif> Hey all

<Nikki> ive given copies of db to at least 3 other players

<Diana> shi wont be here this evening, so he wont be able to run it

<Diana> daishi even

<Diana> grr, matar

<Diana> too many nicknames :)

<Nikki> anyway the story is that cryptic was in the server facility of thirdvoice, a company i worked at a while ago with a friend.  they officially closed up shop today and his machine "went away"

<Diana> d'oh

<Thengal> Oops

<Nikki> he'll track it down. he's pretty sure they didnt sell it and he has backups from 2 days ago :)

<Nikki> i can have db here next week but he's, ah, unavailable this evening

* Saif goes looking for his Yellow Die of Death

<Diana> who else had db code?

<Nikki> this was all very short notice.  my friend thought he was there in time to get the box but obviously wasnt

<Thengal> Nope, I didn't

<Diana> *nod*

<Nikki> matar had a copy. i think kat had a copy.

<Diana> matar no here

<Castinar> I've an old code, but don't have my unix machine running (and the code is probably burned on a cd somewhere)

<Nikki> cast, you get a copy?

<Nikki> drat

<Nikki> lemme see if i can find it somewhere else.

<Nikki> at worst i can dig up a really ancient version off my school account

<Nikki> hang on

<Thengal> Question for you Saif, How did my stoneskin get affected by all the falling rubble, did it help protect me at all?

*** Kat has joined #nightbelow

<Kat> hello

<Thengal> Hi Paul

<Kat> So, the leader isn't going to be here?

<Saif> No

<Nikki> you're going to love this...  a 3 year old version :)

<Thengal> Nope, I think we should make Ari take charge... (BG)

<Castinar> btw, I didn't answer your Wed E-mail cause you didn't ask for questions/actions <G>

<Saif> He said Nikki could play battle manager today, and Seth can NPC Matar.  I'd like someone else to NPC Bohica (preferably a fighter type)

<Thengal> Sure I can do it

<Saif> Thengal - I think stoneskin doesn't protect from falling damage, and this would be the same - let me double check

<Castinar> I can do Bohica

<Castinar> nm, looks like he's taken

<Thengal> OK, just noticed I still had it when I brought up the battle grid, so thought I'd ask

<Nikki> thank god i commented this crap

<Diana> point me in the direction of matar's character page up on the web, and no problem

<Kat> Judd, you commented the battle?

<Diana> good coder, see the benefits of comments/ :)

<Kat> Or, how to setup IRC server?

<Diana> nm, found matar's character sheet

<Kat> ice cream break already?

<Saif> Thengal - it doesn't really say in 3e.  In 2e it protect against "attacks", so the falling stones would not count as an attack.  I'm leaning to the same interpretation in 3e - it protects against attacks, but not other types of damage (like falling or being fallen upon).

<Saif> That keeps it from being used to avoid damage from things like lava and other environmental hazards.

<Diana> it never protected against falling btw

<Thengal> Yeah just found it, the pell description specifically states blow, cuts, jabs and slashes

<Diana> accourding to dragon magazine

<Saif> Thengal - do you need a copy of Bohica's sheet, or is what's on the grid enough?

<Thengal> What's on grid should be good for now

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> So any "I would have rather" dones from the e-mail turn?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> as far as distances moved, etc.

<Castinar> none here

<Saif> can't go back on pushing the tower over <g>

<Amber> nope

<Thengal> Nope

<Saif> BTW, I'm on puppy watch tonight, so I may have to go running if it gets away and into something

<Thengal> Wouldn't want to, That was fun

<Amber> what kinda puppy?

<Saif> "Look!  A 20' tower!  Look!  The 20' tower is falling on us!" <g>

<Saif> Shar-pei Brittany Spaniel mix, more shar-pei (or so Jamie hopes!)

<Saif> brb

<Diana> rnning up would get me how close?

<Amber> now that's an interesting mix!

<Diana> gah, slow ass mac sorry

<Diana> let me look

<Nikki> i need to kick the server for a sec.  please reconnect in 15 secs

<Saif> back

*** Disconnected

*** Now talking in #Nightbelow

<Kat> all kick

<Thengal> Nope, looks like we all were

<Diana> *nod*

<Kat> Judd reset the server

<Saif> must not be a Unix server <G>

<Diana> hehe

<Kat> I guess you didn't get the message

<Diana> missed it, was looking at the web page map

<Diana> saif, im 200' from the bad guys?

<Saif> Diana - a run would have put you at Q14

*** Ari has joined #nightbelow

<Saif> Darn, she caught up with us.   ;-)

<Diana> hehe

<Castinar> Shadow is at 200' from west tower baddies

<Diana> ok, well thats within range of magic missile and other spells, so a mosey is fine

<Saif> New term "mosey" to be added to "hustle" and "run"

<Saif> Once we get everybody back we'll start

<Saif> So we're missing Amber and Nikki now, right?

*** dshutton has joined #nightbelow

*** dshutton is now known as Amber

*** db has joined #nightbelow

<db> db

<Kat> db

<Saif> Now just Nikki - Judd must be looking for... ah

<db> drat

<Saif> db d20

* Saif reaches for his Yellow Die of Death again

<Diana> hrm, actually is there anyway for me to be within 180' Saif?

<Saif> checking exact distances... 180 from what point?

<Diana> from the closer tower

<db> grr

<db> dsfsfsdf

*** db has quit IRC

<Saif> the one that's mostly rubble now?

<Diana> yeah

<Saif> checking...

<Saif> You're a hop-skip-and-jump away from 180' from 4 right now.  (V15d would be exactly 180') - you can calculate exactly where you want to be from there and move to anywhere between your current location and Q14

<Saif> Let me know where you want to be (coords)

* #Nightbelow is being logged

<Thengal> I would think Bohica and Shadow would probably remain with Diana, wherever she decided to end up yet.

<Saif> Bohica yes, Shadow has other range considerations

<Thengal> Ahh ok

<Diana> ah heck, ill move up as a half move next round or something. no point in being picky

<Amber> *how high was the 'ceiling' again? 30'?

<Amber> *where Amber is.

<Saif> BTW, Bohica's loyalty is to Matar, and he has been given responsibility for his life.  The mage knows he can't take control of Matar's life, but protecting his life would be Bohica's primary motivation, should Matar get into a nasty situation.

<Saif> Yes, 30' ceilings

<Thengal> Got it

<Saif> Oh, Kat - was that ok dropping you to the ground and having you run forward?

<Kat> yes

<Saif> You need to talk Diana into sinking Boots of Speed into your slippers <g>

<Saif> We'll start once Judd is back and ready to go.  Of course, he's the first one in initiative order right now.

<Diana> hehe

<Amber> *with boots of flying, what position is the user in? Superman style or upright and big target?

<Saif> ## While we're waiting, the first person to correctly answer this question in a private window to me wins 50XP.  What module did Slippers of Spider Climbing make their first appearance in??

<Saif> Amber - upright

<Diana> dear g im not going to get :)

<Amber> *darn!

*** Diana sets mode: +s

*** Diana sets mode: -s

<Amber> brb afk

<Saif> I guess I remember it well because it was the first module I ever DMed.

<Saif> Behirs - clay golems - sleeping vampires - ring any bells?

<Kat> oh, you mean TSR published module

<Saif> yes

<Castinar> Behirs do --- only one module had them that I know of --- if only I can remember which one that was!

<Saif> I think the behir is on the cover

<Castinar> Yep --- I can picture it <G>

<Saif> it's where most of the demon-related spells came from as well

<Castinar> I probably  have it <VBG>

<Thengal> Nope, must have been one of the Modules I didn't go through

<Saif> Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth

<Castinar> Yah

<Saif> K, more triva - let me find a good question <g>

<Kat> I'm glad I didn't purchase very many modules

<Castinar> That was actually one of the better modules too

<Diana> gah, i never did go through many modules either

<Amber> back

<Diana> just the keep on the borderlands/scourge of the slave lords/Gis/decent into the underdark ones

<Amber> *just had to get some of the fresh baked french bread before everyone else ate it!

<Saif> OK, again, in a private window, first to tell me...

<Saif> Name two of the three new character classes introduced in Unearthed Arcana

<Saif> Diana got it

<Diana> :)

<Kat> super

<Thengal> Just didnt type fast enough

<Saif> Ok, for 25 - Diana and Thengal got the Cavalier and Barbarian - what was the third?

<Saif> Cast - it's not one you named

<Castinar> Cavalier

<Diana> acrobat

<Saif> No grabbing for the books! <g>

<Castinar> not in that room

<Saif> Yup, theif-acrobat

<Thengal> Yup that was it

<Saif> Looking for another good question

<Diana> god, that takes me back

<Castinar> Cav was in there too, no?  Thats where they upped their stats as they levelled...

<Diana> yeah, cav, barbarian, and thief acrobat

<Saif> we'll do this in the main window now

<Castinar> Oh --- didn't see your answers <G>

<Diana> they had the 100 die roll character gen system too.

<Diana> that was funny

<Saif> ### In the original Greyhawk, what were the three tribes of barbarians living on the peninsula in the north-east corner of the map.

<Diana> 'since im a paladin, i roll 9d keep the best three...

<Diana> gah

<Castinar> The world?

<Saif> yes, in the world

<Castinar> Ice Barbarian only one I can (I think) recall

<Amber> gads, I haven't looked at that book for years!

<Thengal> Ddn't really get into Greyhawk

<Diana> blanking

<Saif> Well, I can't find  my boxed set, but I'm pretty sure it was Ice, Frost, and Snow.

<Diana> creatively named too :)

<Castinar> frost, ice

<Castinar> and snow

<Saif> ### Another question... name the Oriental Adventure equivalents of a wizard and cleric - extra 25 points if you name both kinds of clerics (and can type it fast enough to beat the others)

<Castinar> Yah, you got it --- (I cheated, looked it up)

<Diana> sugenja

<Diana> and er..

<Saif> gotta get both for the 50

<Kat> wujen

<Castinar> Shukenja

<Diana> there

<Diana> kat had it

*** Ari has quit IRC (Leaving)

<Saif> so what, I'm supposed to split it up <g>

<Thengal> Sohei is the other cleric

<Diana> :)

<Castinar> Shukenja and wujen

<Castinar> there's both <G>

<Saif> OK, 10 each to Diana, Kat, and Thengal

<Saif> looking...

<Diana> wujen means 'wise old guy', which is why i always laugh at OA :)

<Saif> ### King Azoun of Cormyr was the what number king (I, II, III, etc.) to bear that name (Azoun)? - this is for 25

<Diana> the third

<Castinar> III

<Amber> five

<Thengal> IV

<Saif> iV it is

<Kat> I thought he was the fourth

<Thengal> Just now reading the Cormyr Novel

<Saif> For 10 - name the Realms deity of beauty

<Thengal> Sune

<Saif> T gets it

<Kat> Are we waiting for Judd?

<Thengal> Yup

<Diana> lol, too slow

<Castinar> Sune

<Saif> yes, I'd imagine he's tweaking db's code right now

<Castinar> Heh --- I need to pay attention <G>

<Kat> Farscape is almost over

<Kat> So, it's ok with me

<Diana> ooh, new episode?

<Kat> I've never seen it before

<Castinar> think its new

<Kat> They are trapped in a worm hole

<Thengal> I'm watching the Bruins game right now

<Saif> For 25 - name the Kind of the Moonshae Islands who was crowned during the Moonshae Trilogy.

<Saif> King, not Kind

<Saif> 50 points for his full name

* Castinar snaps his fingers....

<Diana> damn and i read these books

<Diana> long time ago tho

<Castinar> I did too --- 10 years ago <G>

<Thengal> I remember Tristan, but not his last name

<Castinar> Kendrick

<Thengal> Yup that's it

<Castinar> when you said Tristan I remembered <G>

<Saif> K, 25 each to Thengal and Cast

<Thengal> Hey, this is suppused to be a team effort right

<Diana> hehe

<Kat> Hey, where is George?

<Diana> off with friends

<Diana> e blue man group with our tribe from tribes

<Kat> Well, this first combat isn't more important than his friends?

<Saif> For 50 points, describe the scene on the cover of the 1st Edition AD&D Player's Handbook.

<Diana> hehe, they flew in from all around the country for this 3 day get together thing

<Diana> im just not feeling well enough to go to a blue man group thing

<Kat> Saturday, Sunday, Monday are three days.

<Amber> big devil type statue with fire in it and players below

<Castinar> Thats DMG I think

<Saif> big statue, that's part if it

<Castinar> ah, guess not <G>

<Diana> thieves steeling from the statue its eyes

<Diana> dead lizard men on the ground

<Thengal> I think I still have one lying around in England somewhere

<Saif> K, 10 for Amber, 40 for Diana

<Castinar> I think I have it now, Ted <G>

<Castinar> that was in that bag of books you had me take from my house <G>

<Thengal> Maybe

<Thengal> Hey all, I'm off to Florida in about 14 hours

<Saif> In that same 1e PH there was a picure of a Paladin in the Paladin class description.  Where was the paladin and/or what was he doing?

<Diana> cool, business or pleasure?

<Diana> killing demons

<Diana> specifically, hacking ones arm nearly off, while others approached

<Saif> <nod>

<Kat> It does not look good for Jon

<Diana> full plate, long sword, shield getting clawed by dieing demon etc.

<Thengal> Going to visit with my sister and brother-in-law.  He's in the last stages of throat cancer, so this will probably be last time I see him

<Kat> he was in hell

<Saif> Here's a good one, a 50 pointer.  There is a picture of a cleric casting "Locate Object" and detecting bags of treasure on the other side of the wall.  But there's a problem/danger.  What is the problem/danger?

<Diana> ouch, sorry about that thengel

<Kat> The paladin was fighting demons in hell

<Diana> spiderss on the walls and ceiling

<Saif> geez, I didn't think you guys would get that one.

<Diana> hehe

<Diana> i grew up on that book

<Saif> I'd better stop.  Diana's already earned enough XP to burn off a bunch of potions. <g>

<Thengal> NP, We're trying to make the best of things

<Diana> some of my earliest memories

<Diana> brb

<Thengal> I've gotten a set of D&D books for my 11-year old nephew, He's got the bug

<Thengal> Gonna get him started while I'm down there

<Saif> * talking to Judd in e-mail.  He's trying to get on at the same time as db and have db work, but is having problems.

<Amber> good for you!

<Amber> indoctranate early, I did with my son..he started playing at 7

<Saif> Here's another question, each part worth 10 points.

<Thengal> He got interested by playing Baldur's Gate <heh heh>

<Saif> Around the time of 1st Edition, TSR put out three other games, one dealing with the far future (space travel), one with a post-holocast world, and the other set in the wild west.  Name the three games.

<Castinar> Boot hill

<Saif> check

<Amber> gamma

<Kat> Gammaworld

<Saif> Gamma what?

<Castinar> spelljammer?

<Saif> check

<Saif> nope

<Castinar> didn't think so <G>

<Diana> star frontiers

<Diana> as the space one

<Diana> and boot hill

* Castinar ndos

<Diana> as the wild west

<Saif> That's the one I'm trying to decide - which came out first, Traveler or Star Frontiers?

<Diana> traveller by nearly 3 years

<Kat> Traveler

<Amber> I think it was traveler

<Thengal> ICW came out with Traveller

<Castinar> Trav I think --- but not sure

<Diana> but traveller wasnt tsr

<Saif> ah

<Saif> OK

<Diana> star frontiers had a pretty decent ship vs ship combat system

<Diana> wish they had let you make new ships tho

<Diana> military ships that is

<Castinar> cdmag.com has an interesting review on a new starship game --- I might check it out

<Thengal> Yeah, Traveller had a decent system for making your own ships

<Diana> sadly, traveller seemed awfully limited to my young mind

<Castinar> traveller had a decent system for making lots of things (universes, planets, etc.)

<Thengal> In a lot of ways yeah

<Diana> i have the whole set of black books tho, and i still look at them for research and inspiration

<Diana> yeah

<Diana> lots of fun random stuff

<Kat> How many have played Avalon Hill's boardgame 'Starship Troopers'?

<Diana> havent no.

<Amber> noe

<Thengal> Nope, sorry

<Diana> any good?

<Diana> iron chef ingrediant, one sec

<Kat> It was for kiling my older borther's bugs.

<Kat> It was better than the movie

<Kat> Much closer to the book.

<Saif> Here's another multi-part question, 10 points per correct answer.

<Amber> bbc Amberica is having a Monty Python marithon on this weekend, on now.  Iron Chef?  humm, hve to watch it later tonight

<Saif> Appendix A of the 1e DMG had a "Random Dungeon Generator".  Along the bottom of those pages it showed a party moving through a dungon, fighting various types of creatures.  Name the monsters they are shown fighting.

<Castinar> rats

<Thengal> trolles

<Saif> nope

<Castinar> kobolds

<Saif> trolls

<Castinar> hehe

<Saif> kobolds

<Kat> rust monster

<Thengal> or trolls even

* Castinar nods at Kat

<Saif> nope on the rust monster

<Saif> three more

<Castinar> Spiders

<Saif> nope

<Saif> we'll pop these three up to 20

<Castinar> Gel Cube

<Amber> gelatinous cube? i seem to remember that somewhere

<Saif> nope

<Castinar> that was another picture I remember well

<Kat> orc

<Saif> nope

<Diana> lol, i remember them climing through a tunnel...

<Diana> hrm..

<Castinar> wyvern

<Saif> yes, there was the tunnel

<Kat> bugbear

<Saif> nope wyvern and bugbear

<Castinar> umber hulk

* Castinar wishes he had his books unpacked <G>

<Saif> nope

<Diana> gah

<Diana> its on the tip of my mind

<Castinar> Xorn

<Saif> nope

<Thengal> I'm thinking Troglodytes

<Saif> nope

<Saif> 15 seconds

<Castinar> centipedes

<Saif> nope

<Saif> 5

<Saif> 4

<Castinar> doh

<Amber> piercers

<Saif> 3

<Saif> nope

<Saif> 2

<Saif> 1

<Kat> drow

<Saif> ding!

<Saif> nope

<Kat> hehe

<Saif> fire salamanders, stone giants, and a vampire or demon (hard to tell)

<Thengal> OK what were they

<Castinar> Ah, yes --- the salamanders

<Diana> now i remember the salamanders and giants

<Diana> cant remember the vampire/demon thing tho

<Thengal> Ahh, I do remember the Salamanders now you mention it

<Thengal> brb

<Saif> Here's a 100 point question, but you've only got 20 seconds to answer it.

<Saif> There is a picture of a guy riding through a town, firing magical bolts at everybody.  His name is Something the Chaotic.  What is his name?

<Diana> aaaaagh

<Castinar> in which book?

<Diana> i know it i know it!

<Saif> DMG

<Saif> I like doing this just to hear Seth go gaah. <g>

<Saif> 10 sec

<Diana> dammit

<Diana> hehe

<Castinar> Kheldan <G>

<Diana> im blanking

<Castinar> I'll guess something <G>

<Saif> ding

<Diana> new it started with a k

<Diana> oh well

<Saif> Emirikol

<Diana> oh, completely off :)

<Castinar> Gees... never have guessed that

<Diana> he is actually in the new 3rd ed living greyhawk campaigns now

* Castinar needs to get a network card in his unix box and try to get it running on cablemodem

<Castinar> Is he???

<Diana> yeah, bad guy of course

<Castinar> I don't remember the name

<Diana> played by one of the LG coordinators

<Diana> met him at an event

<Castinar> In which kingdom?

<Diana> greyhawk :)

<Castinar> BTW, where is your home region?

<Diana> um, illinois is hmm

<Thengal> Free Onwal!!

<Castinar> Free Onwal!!!!!!!!!!!!

<Diana> its south of greyhawk is all i can remember

<Diana> id have to go look it up

<Castinar> got it here.... I think

<Saif> Paul - any idea if Kim is planning on coming back?

<Kat> Do you want her to come back?

<Diana> i have a 1st sorc/1st wizard, and a psychic warrior

<Amber> whats the iron chef ingredient?

<Castinar> From Onwal --- just took a trip to shield lands

<Saif> OK, here's a good one - 50 points, but you have to get the name exactly right.

<Castinar> psychic warrior?  They've authorzied them?

<Castinar> I've a 2nd level monk

<Castinar> Nearing 3rd I think

<Thengal> back

<Kat> Kim is planning on coming back when Judd gets here

<Saif> in the 1e DMG there is a picture of a cleric, fighter, and wizard sitting at a table playing a game based on being "workers and students in an industrialized and technological society".  What is the name of the game they are playing?

<Diana> 0in the latest LG i went to yeah

<Castinar> Oh, gees

<Diana> lol, i remember that

<Amber> dang! I remember that pic....

<Diana> suits and something maybe?

<Saif> nope

<Thengal> Something like Accountants and Architects

<Saif> nope

<Saif> I'm not sure if Judd is coming back.  He's not responding to e-mails now

<Kat> brb

<Saif> K, for half the points, the name is "Papers and (something)."  What's the something?

<Thengal> Politics

<Saif> close, but nope

<Saif> So how do you get into the Living Greyhawk campaign?  That's real-life, right?  Not PBEM.

<Diana> yeah

<Diana> you play at a convention

<Diana> you need to be an RPGA member

<Amber> politicians

<Thengal> Yup, they got them at most conventions

<Saif> nope

<Saif> Hrm, no conventions around here (at least that I know of)

-> *Kat* let me know when you get back - and call Kim back if you can. We're going to get started without Judd.

<Diana> its fun, im really looking forward to living force at gen con

<Castinar> professions?

<Saif> Papers and Paychecks

<Diana> food time, brain hurt :)

<Castinar> quick, ask more!

<Saif> We'll go ahead and start without Judd, once we get Paul and Kim back

<Saif> <g>

<Saif> 10 points - where was the computer game "Eye of the Beholder" set?

<Diana> waterdeep

<Thengal> Waterdeep Sewers

<Saif> What do they call the Waterdeep Sewers?

<Castinar> Undermountain

<Saif> or what do they connect to

<Saif> k

*** Ari has joined #nightbelow

<Saif> We're going to start once Paul gets back

<Kat> because it's beneath Waterdeep

<Thengal> I know they lead to Skullport, wait, isn't that Undermountain??

<Saif> I guess that would mean he's back <g>

<Castinar> Its a city in undermountain

<Saif> The sewers connect with both Undermountain and Skullport

<Saif> last check for Judd...

<Kat> Judd must be busy at work

<Saif> Nope, he must be heading home or something

<Kat> or with traffic

<Saif> OK

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> Round... urm...

<Diana> 3? or 2?

<Saif> Two!

<Diana> heh

<Saif> In intiative order

<Saif> Nikki is first (of course).  I'll NPC her.  Judd gave me some guidelines (which I'm looking at right now)

<Saif> checking spells...

<Diana> i guess nikki really likes magic missiles :)

<Saif> She'll move forward to get in magic missile range

<Saif> stopping right behind Kat

<Saif> Diana?

<Diana> lets see, counting ranges

<Saif> * anybody remember what i decided on as a character to ask for actions?  wasn't it @name?

<Amber> I think that was it...you did use that for something

<Saif> Well, I'll stick with the @name for now

<Diana> cast Ice Storm at E8 (range 720' damage 4d6, area 20' radius

<Diana> er 5d6

<Saif> so centered in the middle of E8?

<Diana> DC 21

<Diana> yeah

<Saif> stand by...

<Diana> oh, no saving throw, but spell resistance

<Saif> wow, you couldn't cut that much closer

<Diana> thats what i was remembering

<Diana> heh

<Saif> that catches 4 derro out in the open, and pounds down close enough to shower Thengal and Matar in ice chips

<Saif> They all try to make their spell resistance...

<Diana> d20 + 8

<Diana> for me

<Saif> ok, who stole my monster cheat sheet?

<Amber> house gremlin?

<Amber> though I;m sure he prefers socks

<Saif> grrr - stand by, looking

<Saif> well, this isn't good.  I'm going to have to print out a new one.  just a sec.

<Saif> K, 1 and 3 are unaffected, but both 4 and 6 are

<Saif> 18 points of damage

<Saif> 4 is killed

<Saif> 8 is injured

<Saif> Now the area is covered in large hailstones as well

<Diana> then ill half move to T14 or so

<Saif> T14, check

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @Bohica?

<Thengal> I'll Move to T14, Then Magic Missil 1 (Magic Missile:Rang 170ft

<Saif> K, roll to overcome his spell resistance

<Thengal> You want me to Roll with ragular dice??

<Saif> sorry <g>

<Saif> I'll roll

<Castinar> LoL

<Saif> Bohica gets exactly what he needs to overcome the spell resistance.  How many missiles at 7th?  3?

<Thengal> 4

<Castinar> 4

<Saif> four, rolling...

<Saif> 11 points damage on 1

<Thengal> brb getting a beer

<Saif> Derro 1 drops out of sight

<Saif> Derro 5 continues running down the tunnel

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @Kat?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

* Kat will keep ahead of the mages. She will fire a normal arrow at one of the derro. She would prefer to fire at derro 5. If she doesn't have to move forward, she will fire more arrows.

<Saif> Kat - if you shoot at Derro 5 he'll have effective 3/4 cover from the towers and since you can't really arch the line of fire from your bow.  Still shoot at him?

<Saif> He's 60' beyond where he is shown on the last map, making him...

<Kat> *I take that to mean that she can't see him.  She will fire at a different one

<Saif> 270 from you

<Saif> Can't see him clearly

<Saif> OK, that leaves...

<Saif> 3, who has 9/10ths cover (hiding behind crennelation) and 6, who has 1/2 cover (fallen down behind rubble)

<Saif> want to try either of them?

<Kat> 6

<Saif> But 6 is also flat-footed since he's on his butt

<Saif> k, ... I just about asked you to roll again <g>

<Saif> calculating and rolling...

<Kat> db d20+15

<Saif> possible fumble...

<Saif> * no, not the yellow die

<Saif> no fumble, but a miss

<Saif> * which is about the only thing that would have missed

<Saif> Do you want to move forward, or take another shot?

<Saif> or something else move-equivalent?

<Kat> How far ahead did the mages go?

<Thengal> 30' total

<Kat> I thought your email put Kat at R11

<Saif> about 10' in front of you (directly across the tunnel, but since it is at an angle, about 10' closer to the derro than you are)

<Saif> U12 is Kat's current location

* Kat will move ahead of the mages

<Saif> * I probably had R11 as the intention, then figured you you had to drop down first too

<Saif> How far?  Can you see the map?

<Kat> np

<Kat> 5 - 10ft ahead of the mages

<Saif> k

<Saif> Kat's at S12

<Kat> ok

<Saif> Derro 6 scrambles to his feet, then runs into the left hand building behind the tower

<Saif> Derro 3 disappears

<Saif> * ducks to where you can't see him

<Saif> That means right now you can't see any live derro, except for 5, who is running away

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @Amber?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

* Amber moves up to 28' and forward to v12 as close to wall side as she can get.

<Saif> K, anything else?

<Amber> nope

<Saif> making a check for something

-> *Castinar* the benefits of having a high "spot" score - you catch a glimpse of something which quickly peeks out of the left hand building (behind the tower). You distinctly see a bald head with tentacles hanging from the face.

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @Castinar?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Castinar> hmm...

<Castinar> sorry, that changed my actions

<Saif> np

<Saif> I would imagine that it might <g>

<Castinar> <BEWARE!!! MINDATTACK!!!>

<Saif> * that comes through the Combat Empathy link

<Diana> oh dear

<Amber> *new I should have done prot. evil...sigh

<Kat> *Castinar is under a mind attack or is Galen?

<Saif> * Galen <g>

* Castinar casts flaming sphere at C8b -- Range Med, effect 3' rad, duration 5 rds, sv (reflex) and SR

<Castinar> DC 15

<Saif> Cast - it will have to be at C9a - you can't see into C8b

<Saif> So it can be right at the doorway, but not inside it

<Castinar> hmm, okay

<Castinar> will also take a 5' move to

<Castinar> j10b

<Saif> OK, a flaming sphere appears, blocking the doorway to the left-hand building

<Saif> You hear a cry of surprise from inside the house - but it sounds like a derro, not what you might have been expecting

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @K'harn?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Diana> * out of curiosity, if you are using the new psionics rules, are you using the SR=PR rule, or are psionics different÷

<Castinar> SR=PR for my game

<Saif> using the Monster Manual stats here

<Saif> not worrying about the psionics book

<Saif> But yes, sr would = pr

<Diana> ok

<Saif> unless it specifically states otherwise in the MM, which I'd have to double check

<Diana> it doesnt

-> *Ari* you here? What does K'harn do?

<Saif> K'harn holds

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @Shadow?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Castinar> Can she see any?

<Castinar> #5?

<Saif> Same thing - 3/4 cover and a very long shot

<Saif> 300' shot

*** Ari has quit IRC (Leaving)

<Saif> take it?

<Saif> you can close the distance a bit by moving first

<Castinar> I got 230 feet --- would be -4 shots

<Saif> not sure if that will drop your range category

<Castinar> Am I missing something?

<Saif> Yes, he is 60' beyond where he is shown on the map.  He already acted this round and is still running.

<Castinar> ahh --- got it

<Castinar> no, will move forward to....

<Castinar> t14b

<Castinar> (x2)

<Saif> Diana is standing in T14b.  Bohica is in T14d.  Where around there do you want to be?

* Saif can't wait until he gets monsters that can throw fireballs again.

<Castinar> Hmm.. t13b

<Saif> k

<Saif> Ari shakes off the effects of the stones and looks around.  She spots 5 running away.  "Oh no, you don't" she mutters.

<Saif> She then casts Flame Strike on it.

<Saif> She just barely overcomes its spell resistance (we've had a lot of that this round)

<Saif> wow, 10d6

<Diana> heh, we mostly have 50-50 odds i think :)

<Diana> hmmm.. toasted derro...

<Saif> 32 points damage.  Crispy derro falls to the ground and burns.

<Kat> nice job

<Diana> no reinforcements. good

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @Matar?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Diana> where is the entrance where Castinar cast the flaming sphere?

<Saif> C8b

<Diana> can Matar get around the FS and into that room?

<Saif> there is another at C10a

<Diana> oh, nm then

<Saif> if he has tumbling he can try to tumble past it

<Saif> but it's a 3' sphere blocking the lower half of a 6' doorway

<Diana> hrm. he does have tumbling

<Saif> Actually he does have tumbling at 14

<Saif> of course, I won't tell you the DC before you roll <g>

<Diana> hehe

<Saif> or before I roll for you, I should say.

<Diana> ok, Matar will half move Tumble into the doorway, and then attack if he can see anything afterwards.

<Saif> so go through the doorway?

<Diana> yeah

<Saif> K, rolling...

<Diana> and he will think "Thengel, check out they other doorway."

<Saif> reading first...

<Diana> the even

<Saif> geez, another "barely" on the DC to get past the sphere OK

<Saif> Matar leaps into the room and finds himself facing a little gathering

<Saif> there are three derro, and two illithid

<Saif> hold on, let me update the map real quick

<Diana> Thank god i cast spell shield on him

<Diana> and that he is invisible :)

<Saif> OK, the map is now updated.  1 and 6 are both wounded derro.  7 is an illithid.  8 is also an illithid.  He is looking away from Matar.

<Saif> checking something else.

<Saif> Derro 1 and Illithid 7 both look when Matar rolls in.  They both look carefully and seem to be aware of Matar being there.

<Diana> Matar wants to cut the illithid that is looking at him

<Saif> 6 looks, but then continues looking

<Saif> full offensive 5 to power?

<Saif> that's his default setting.

<Diana> yes

<Diana> Just want to check to be sure: mind blast is ffecting, so Spell Shield will provide its bonus yes?

<Diana> mind affecting that is

<Saif> lol - not the round for the party to be using weapon attacks.  Another possible fumble.

<Saif> no fumble, but misses

<Diana> rgr

<Diana> Matar curses his clumsyness, and thinks to the rest of the party "Illithid, two of them, in here

<Saif> yes, he'll get the bonus

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> @Thengal?

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Diana> keen

<Thengal> Thengal was already heading toward the door at c10a, he'll kick it in and see whats inside

<Saif> Thengal finds that the room is deserted and filled with dust

<Saif> he sees a doorway and can just make out Ari through it

<Saif> (the outer wall is down, but not the inner wall, which has the doorway in it, but lots of rubble outside of the door)

<Thengal> ok THiks, Get that fire outta da way, so's I ken help out MAtar!!!

<Saif> K, end of round.

<Saif> Anything I've missed?

<Saif> updating map and grid

<Saif> Oh, K'harn runs up next to Ari

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> Map and Grid updated

<Saif> .

<Saif> .

<Saif> so what say ye, keep playing with you five, or wait until we have more players available?

<Thengal> Hey, aren't I at c10a now?

<Saif> say ye anything? <g>

<Saif> yes, refresh the map

<Thengal> I'm ok with playing, or quitting

<Kat> Can Kat be somewher between the mages and the bad guys?

<Diana> Im a little woried about playing with only 5 and against mind flayers

<Amber> either way is fine by me but be fairer if we have more here

<Castinar> can continue if that is the general wishes

<Saif> Kat - like more R13ish?  That will be fine

<Kat> ok

<Saif> I'd kind of like to have Matar decide what Matar does.  He could be in trouble.

* Castinar agrees

<Diana> *nod*

<Kat> wait for Matar to decide his fate

* Amber nods

<Diana> a strategic withdrawl might be in order :)

<Saif> Let's do this - give me your intentions for this next round.  That will give me a head start on getting an e-mail turn out early next week.

<Diana> he knows his vulnerabilities

<Saif> So those of you here - give me your intentions for your characters/followers.

<Castinar> *GACK --- moving a Flaming sphere is a move action!??!

<Diana> check: there are no visible derro to the mages?

* Amber casts protection from evil on herself and moves (?) to t10 by wall

* Kat will keep between the bad guys and the mages. She will look for targets and shoot them.

<Saif> correct - the only person that can currently see any bad guys is Matar, since he's standing next to them all.

<Diana> ok

<Thengal> OK, I've reloaded the map several times and show no change

<Saif> You are all aware of them through the CE link, but only general positions (non-targetable)

<Castinar> need to clear cache

<Saif> Kat - if Matar gets charmed and comes out swinging at Thengal, does he count as a target? <weg>

* Diana will run forward to where she has line of sight on the doorway, and announce that she will "Be cooking that room if you all get  out of there in time."  (ie next round, not this upcoming one).

<Kat> yes

<Kat> hehehe

<Diana> Well, the spell shield will keep him from getting charmed anyway

*** Thengal is now known as Bohica

<Diana> Im more worried about stunned.

<Saif> Thengal - I just checked, the new one is the current one up there.

<Bohica> Yeah got it now

* Castinar sighs --- I'll move FS to B9b as my move action :-(

<Diana> You can take two move actions castinar

<Castinar> Shadow will move to m19a

<Diana> its two attack actions you cant take..

* Castinar nods

<Castinar> debating what to do with other action

* Bohica worries about hin new lord recklessly charging into the fray and rushes forwad to see what he can do to help

*** Bohica is now known as Thengal

<Kat> Kat will not target Matar.  It would take too many arrows to take him out.

<Saif> So Thengal - I just need your action

* Castinar will then move to F8b, fin drawn

<Thengal> If Cast moves the Flaming Sphere out of the way, I'll join Matar, If not I'll yell at Cast

<Saif> BTW, looks like I have tomorrow free, so I should be able to get a summary and request for intentions for the next turn done.

<Saif> <g>

<Saif> K, got it Thengal

<Thengal> I'll be out of E-mail contact for a day or two fyi

<Saif> BTW, you won't be able to strike at anything unless Matar moves as well.  Or (I'll have to look at the map) you might be able to, but the target will have cover from the doorway.

<Saif> So Thengal - your general intentions - help out Matar and retreat if the party does so?

<Thengal> Yup

<Saif> otherwise stand there and slug it out?

<Saif> k

<Saif> thanks for coming everybody.  Hopefully next week we'll have a normal server and db up and running again.

<Saif> any last questions for me?

<Kat> Saif, things settling down at your house?

<Diana> gnight all :)

<Amber> none.

<Castinar> night...

<Kat> night

<Amber> tata

<Saif> and, just as an idle question with no relation to the current situation what so ever, can anybody recommend a good book on the Outer Planes?

<Castinar> Manual of the Planes, if you can find one

*** Diana has quit IRC (Bar-B-Q Illithid! Yumm!)

<Saif> Kat - yes, pretty much.  Of course, we've got the puppy now <g>

<Thengal> I don't know what internet access I'll have in Florida, I'll try to let you know whether I'll be able to be there

<Castinar> Old TSR book

<Saif> thanks Thengal

<Kat> How many of your new pbems are still up and running? <G>

<Saif> actually all of them!

<Castinar> Otherwise, there are a couple Planescape books that have some good info in them...

<Saif> maybe I'll just have to wing it.  That Plane Shift ability can really throw a wrench into the storyline.

<Kat> it would be fun to return to a time before you leave

<Kat> and stop yourself from going

*** Amber has quit IRC (Sometimes.... the Dragons win)

<Kat> any more 1e picture trivia?

<Saif> with only three of you <g>

<Kat> good chance to get it right

<Saif> hold on, let me see how much free XP I gave out this evening

<Thengal> Nope, I'm outta here gotta fight the snow to get to the airport in the morning.

<Saif> 390 points.  Not too bad in 3e.

<Castinar> planeshift?

<Kat> Ted, have fun in Florida

<Thengal> See you all, I will

*** Thengal has quit IRC

<Saif> you know, it's hard to type with a puppy nipping at your toes <g>

<Kat> aye

<Saif> well, I'm outta here.

<Saif> see you guys later

<Kat> Any word from David?

<Saif> nope

<Kat> me either

<Kat> Well, night

<Saif> if he's not back by the next time the party returns home I'm going to take his character out of play.

<Kat> See ya, Galen

<Castinar> have good weekend
