Chat Summary for 15 June, 2001
After a week in e-mail of extensive planning, we started the chat session fairly close to where we wanted to be. We did have to spend about an hour getting the final details wrapped up, but it went fairly quickly.
Once everything was in position the group reviewed Matar’s plan and then proceeded forward. The only real change was that the assault group (Katrina, Matar, and Thengal) were flying. This group was also invisible and silenced.
The party moved forward to just under the murder holes. Castinar then moved forward with the assault team, stopping where he could keep the barricade and crossbow trap in sight. The assault team then proceeded forward, climbing up to the room over the murder holes. As they were moving forward Castinar heard a faint tinkling sound from behind the barricade and then heard a creaking sound.
That’s where things started to deviate slightly from the plan. Instead of sitting around playing cards, as the group expected, the derro in the room were franticly preparing for an attack, getting torches lit, moving rocks over next to the holes, and uncovering the holes themselves. Without wasting any time, the assault team attacked. Kat had some bad luck and ended up taking two rounds to kill her derro, but both Matar and Thengal quickly dispatched theirs. Thengal then cut the cords leading into and out of the room.
The assault team then returned to Castinar’s position. With everything in order they proceeded with step two, the attack on the barricade. Castinar sabotaged the crossbow trap by warping its wooden parts. Katrina secured the two tunnels leading deeper into the derro lair. Matar was able to take out two of the derro who were standing up on the barricade itself, while Thengal got a good attack in on the lieutenant commanding the small detachment of derro.
As this was going on, the rest of the party moved forward to Castinar’s position.
That’s all we were able to do, since the DMs family was sick and he had to go take care of them. The game was reluctantly called off.
That’s the situation we are in right now. There are two derro alive behind the barricade - the lieutenant (who looks like he’ll drop with another solid hit) and a normal soldier (who has the unfortunate luck to have Matar standing next to him right now). Other than the strange tinkling and the fact that the crossbow trap was being prepared, there hasn’t been any sign of a general alarm.
So now the question is, do you guys want to try an e-mail turn? Those haven’t been very successful with this game in the past. We can just wait until next week’s chat session, if you would rather do that.
Map and Grid are both updated. Log is up.

PS: This week in history:
In real time, one year ago the party was in Jurgenville after the battle with the shadow dragon. Ariessus had just gone back in time to Myth Drannor, and Diana was about to be called as a Chosen of Isis. Two years ago they were getting ready to attack the quaggoth lair (was it that long ago!). Three years ago Kerianna was killed by troglodytes, and Zith killed by a roper. Four years ago Beleg was captured during the party’s first attack on Broken Spire Keep. Five years ago several unsuspecting players were generating characters to play in a new PBEM that was getting ready to start.
In game time, one year ago the party had just finished up with the quaggoths. Finslayer was discovered among their treasure, and the party finds an invisible stalker that is following Sigurd around. Two years ago the party just finished cleaning out Broken Spire Keep. Hunter is found and befriended by Castinar. An entrance to the Underdark is found and sealed. The shade of Lord Parlfrey appears and gives a Girdle of Lions to the party, which Matar still uses.
