Lurking

While I realize that many of those in your realm desire avatars with which to adventure in my own, Saif has made it clear to me that he is not accepting new players at this time. Beware that if you choose to send a message pleading to be allowed into the game, Saif shall be forced to taunt you. Risk not the wrath of the Dungeon Master!

There are two ways to lurk - active and passive. The active lurker will receive all of the e-mails sent back and forth between those involved in the game. Passive lurkers will be left on their own. They will be able to follow the game from the chat logs and summaries put on the History page. They may miss out on certain events which occur in e-mail, but they'll be able to follow the general flow of the story.

If you are interested in becoming an active lurker send an e-mail to Saif and request that your address be put on the lurkers list. Ensure that the e-mail address you send this message from is the one you want to use to receive the messages. The volume of traffic varies, but is usually only a few e-mails a day since most of the action in the game occurs during the chat sessions. The chat sessions occur on a private server, so lurkers cannot lurk during the chats.

In the past Saif pulled new players from the ranks of the lurkers. He has decided that this method does not necessarily result in the best players for the game. Instead he will send out invitations to players he is familiar with from other games, or will solicit input from the players in the game to try and locate good players.

So how do you get into the game if Saif doesn't know you and you don't know any of the existing players? Your best bet would be to become an active lurker. Occasionally Saif allows lurkers to participate in the game somehow. For example, two lurkers designed and then played NPCs when the Truth Seekers ran into a party of slavers. Now Saif knows those two lurkers and may consider them for a position in the game, should one open.

The game currently has nine active players. Saif wants to trim that back down to eight, so two existing players would have to leave the game before any new players are brought in. In other words, don't hold your breath unless you've got one of those useful ioun stones that supply you with air circling around your head. Air spores in the lungs would work too, although they will probably die off before a new player is selected.
